... During the developing crisis, I had the direct responsibility of activating the White House relocation sites...
Norman Katz, Military Attache to the U.S. Secret Service
In my Assignment and Position as Military Attaché to the Special Agent US Secret Service, Special Operations Division, Continuity of Government Program I played a lead role in making sure the United States Government Cabinet Officers and all Major Agencies went on in their mission in the event that President of the United States (POTUS) was incapacitated under three circumstances: a natural disaster, a nuclear holocaust or an unexpected incapacity or death. During my tenure in Office, obviously the 3rd tragic event occurred.
My role during my tenure at the White House was to make sure of the operational readiness of any of these "Classified and Strategic Facilities". During the Cuban Missile Crisis and the tragic event of the assassination of President John F. Kennedy I had the direct responsibility of activating the White House Relocation Sites on the orders of James Rowley the Director of the US Secret Service. The Continuity of Government Program (COG) encompasses classified locations throughout the United States, most being "hardened sites" that are built in remote locations of the country as huge labyrinth type, nuclear bomb proof and basically impenetrable faciities.
